About Port AntonioSee the beautiful Jamaican Villas in the famous Blue Lagoon area. Port Antonio is the perfect hideaway resort, one of the best kept secrets
in the Caribbean. It is a tropical jewel in Jamaica's crown. Port Antonio
has preserved its charm as a sleepy fishing village and offers visitors
rich natural beauty, rugged coastlines, romantic beaches, wonderful
waterfalls. Port Antonio is considered to be the birthplace of Jamaica's tourism.
At the end of the 19th century, Port Antonio burst onto the
international stage as the banana capital of the world. Quickly, the
town became known as the vacation spot for the world's rich and famous
and a haven for wealthy merchants who built their winter homes throughout
Port Antonio. Port Antonio still remains this quiet jewel, a perfect hideaway for people who don't want to be the center of attention. Many famous early visitors were Rudyard Kipling, Ginger Rogers, Errol Flynn (who bought a nearby island), J.P Morgan and William Randolph Hearst, as well as many others. It is still frequented by movie stars and visitors looking for a quiet escape. It is a low-key peaceful spot surrounded by nature's magical beauty. Errol Flynn, of course, was Port Antonio's most famous resident- famous for his remark "Port Antonio is more beautiful than any woman I have ever seen". He was so in love with this area, he spent much of his later life on this island. His estate is now a resort and marina open to visitors and is a museum for his possessions. More recently, stars who have come to the area include Robin Williams, Tom Cruise, Glenn Close, Kevin Kline, John Cleese and Kate Moss. Author of "The French Connection", Robin More, chose Port Antonio to hide away while he wrote his famous stories. Movies such as "Cocktail" with Tom Cruise and "Club Paradise" with Robin Williams were filmed here. His plans to live happily ever after crumbled. So did the house. Deep Sea FishingPort Antonio is also famous for some of the best fishing in the Caribbean.
